well..i have this gf and she is emo i am "hippy". she wants me to stop smokin dope, drinking, and smokin cigs. and last week she tells me she just tried to overdose on medicine and she is cutting herself (thighs, wrists, stomach) i dont know what to do. I'm thinking i should tell her ill quit doin my shit if she stops cutting. Breaking up isnt an option since i love her dearly. i asked my freinds and they said to scare her by acting like im becomeing phsycotic and carresing my wrist ..im good at this type of thing so i might give it a go....take er easy and if shes easy take her twice

But If she's taking overdoses too then she's probably pretty depressed.
Talk to her about it.
If that doesnt work take her to a doctor or councillor.
Dont try to freak her out, chances are that'll give her more to have to 'cope' with.

I asked 1 of my girlfreinds what to say and she said "hold her hands, look her in the eyes with sincerity and say 'when you cut yourself it hurts me more. stop hurting me.'"...and another one of my female freinds told me to ask her if she has any loved ones that cut themselves. To tell her that it makes me feel depressed. She is a crazy bitch when it comes to bed this is already determined, shes native american. Don't go and pretend like you're going to cut yourself/actually cut yourself.
An old friend of mine tried showing her best friend how 'stupid it is' by cutting herself in front of her best friend. She then picked up the habit herself. And as far as I know, they both still do it, and that was like 6 years ago.

You could always use the "if you'll quit I'll quit" one, but if you REALLY want to do something, you're going to try and find a way to do it. For instance: you could tell her that you quit smoking pot/cigs/etc, but secretly do it when she's not around. And just because she'd quit cutting doesn't mean that she'd quit hurting herself altogether. There's other ways to hurt yourself physically that don't leave scars and marks. I'd talk to her about it, tell her that it really is bothering you and that you wish she wouldn't do it. Recommend counseling if you'd like, but you can't make her go. Really, she's the only one who can make herself quit, but you can help her out.

i only do drugs cuz without them im so unhappy and antisocial i feel like killing everyone. I used to be addicted to uppers lke tmz... the adderall's because it made me social. but a little off topic.... now the problem with my girl is she wont let me chill with friends cuz i get drunk, she will say "matt, if you love me you won't go to town and you'll call me"... right when she says that my plans are obliterated. Any advice to get her to stop being so controlling would help greatly. :)

No offense, but your girl's exhibiting immature, insecure behavior when she uses the "if you love me" stuff. A lot of the stuff she's doing seems to stem from basic insecurity, actually.

I was insecure once upon a time. It manifested itself in different ways than your gf though.. I would text my bf every half an hour, accuse him of not loving me when he ignored them for days, and break up with him like, every other week. Yeah, I was a real cunt. But he did the best thing for me: he didn't baby me about it. He straight up told me that he loved me but that shit was intolerable. He explained I was doing it because I was insecure about myself and the relationship, that an insecure, needy girl is annoying and that I should be so much better than that. He reassured me that he genuinely loved me and was committed to me but that he wasn't going to remind me of it every five seconds or play those stupid games.

Naturally, I was a little miffed at first. But I realized ultimately that he was right. I wanted to be a great gf, not an annoying one. I felt he deserved a great gf. So I made some changes. I was really grateful for him showing me all that; I'm so much better for it. :) ..I suggest doing the same with your gf.

I'd say have a talk with her about all this and don't let it end until some progress is made. Ask her why she is trying to change you and control you if she loves you. Remind her that you love her the way she is and are committed to being faithful, but that you're young too, and going out, having a good time with friends, and some drug use is all a part of it. It won't last forever but you want to enjoy these years of your life.

Or maybe make a compromise: it's somewhat reasonable to ask for a phonecall, so when you go out, maybe call her every once and again. It'll soothe her worries that you're not out doing too terrible things. ;)

As for the marriage, if you two are really going to make it, you'll be together in a few years anyway, so why the rush? Maybe live together for a bit, see how that works?

Oh and did you mean it when you wrote you're suicidal? Do you have depression or another issue that brings this is on? Maybe you should go to counseling together, grow together and drop your respective bad habits together if you're serious about being your best selves for each other.

Also i have been diagnosed with schizophrenia my mood is eathier extreme happiness, or i feel like shit and want to shoot myself in the head. Not knowing what truely happens or was it just a matter of goddam hallucinations, can really change a guys perspective on people sometimes. The "I'll quit if you quit" is not a good idea. I've had that scenerio before, and someone always breaks down and does whatever it is that they "quit", leading the other to believe that "if they did, I can".. Then you (or she) might feel responsible for the other giving into their bad habit.

The psychotic scaring doesn't sound scary at all, or a good idea. I've had bouts of self-injury in the past, and trust me- others mocking the issue does not help what-so-ever..

But I completely understand the not knowing what to do. I don't think there really is anything to do- it's something she needs to work out herself.
