Materials Needed
24 oz. Mt. Dew bottle, empty and dry
pezzo igniter, you can find one in a disposable grill lighter, those long nosed ones for the stupider people out there
2 thumb tacks
2 rolls of 1 inch duct tape (just so you have enough for those patch jobs that will happen around the area of the thumb tacks or other things in the bottle. and it will depend on how much tape is in a roll.)( sorry guys it is inevitable there will be some patch work and the like.)
1 Bic round stick med/moy pen tube (do with the rest as you see fit. personaly i would make the actual pen into another missile)
those sticks off of those rock candies every one loves so much. put a 1/4 inch of duct tape around the bottum of the stick for a nice tight fit into the pen tube. (give or take an 1/8 of an inch sorry i didnt get the exact messurements for the end tape.)
1 good sharp knife
good file (may not need)
drill with a bit about or a little bigger than the pen (if its too small use the file to to make it bigger. yes this may take a while to do, but i did it and it was worth it.)
wire strippers
cheap hairspray or other flammable aresol (WD-40 and Carb cleaner are NOT recomended, they will ***t the bottle fast.)(and neither is a butane and hairspray mix. that makes BIG BOOM and can cause sever burns. i got away lucky with only a few small 1st degree burns.)
optional- the silver metal thing on the end of the lighter (it just adds to the affect. or wat ever color of thing yours happens ot be. but trust me it looks better with the thing over the ugly white pen.)
Assembly of the gun
1) drill a hole in the exact or as close to the exact center( the closer the better)
2) if need be use your file and size the hole so that the pen barely fits into it. (every so often check to see if its close to the right size. this will save you tape for the other things it will be used for.)
3) in what ever way you see fit, tape the pen as securely as possible into the bottum of the bottle. be sure that you have as tight of a seal as possible. and yes i realize that it will not ever happen that any one will make it completely air tight.
4) take your lighter and take it apart so that the little white thing with with a brass looking thing sticking out the back, and a black thing out of the front.
5) take your wire strippers and cut the wire in half
6) strip the last 1/4 inch of wire covering off of the end of the two wires.
7) take the second half of the wire and wrap it around the brass looking thing so that you get a spark between the two different wires.
8) now take some tape and secure the second half of the wire to the brass thing so it does not move at all
9) take the other ends of wires and wrap them around the thumb tacks to test to see if your wiring job was done right. (if not keep trying till you get it right)
10) once you have the testing of the spark done take the wires off of the thumb tacks and push the tacks through so there is about an 1/8 inch or less distance between them ( but not touching!!!) or you can play around with it till you get a nice blue spark. (keep in mind that this will weaken the structure of the gun. which means more patching jobs)
11) once the desired distance for spark is reached, attach and secure the wires to the tacks and the tacks to the bottle with tape until there is very very little air getting out.
Assemble of the rockets
1) take your rock candy stick (presuming you have already eaten the candy) and put a layer of duct tape on it.
2) repeate this prosses until you have the right amount on (this may take a while seeing as its just trial and error work now)
3) once the right amount of tape on....test it out!
it may take some time to get the right fuel/air ratio down, but i found that this type of bottle works the best for this. you will get about 2-3 shots before you need to let the gun sit and air out. but it works fanominaly if done right. i put a nice dent into the side of a 24 oz Monster can with it from almost 20 feet! insane!
after i get some time to work out the kinks ill post what i have found efective for pointed missiles.
if any one has any modifications that they would like me to add to the thread send me a PM and i will get your suggestions put in or you could just put them in your self.
and if any one has any ideas on how i could improve my design i am open to suggestions.
thanx
