So i started this book recently... damn it reads like a bad dream.
Which group does Joseph Conrad label as evil? the invading brits, or the natives, or both?

Well, you have just asked probably one of the biggest questions that surrounds Heart of Darkness. It is highly debated whether Conrad was pro-imperialist or not. My personal opinion... he was not pro-imperialist writer.

more necro posting from me....

computer i'm on is too shitty to do quotes, it'd take forever or freeze so... (actually froze three hours ago when i originally tried to post this, but i copied and pasted and logged back in......fuck this piece of shit)

i think the point of the book being that everyone has evil within them, i think the book was very anti-imperialist (but not in a preachy sorta way, just a "this is what happens and it's not all that great on a personal level" kinda way), and yes it is the novella Apocalypse Now is based on

had to read heart of darkness for school around when this thread started, but i haven't been on regularly in a while so ya, missed it

and ya i think it was very good, and even if you don't like it it's pretty short..... has some kickass quotes in it to, like "we die as we dream, alone" or something like that.
