Assassins Aprentice
At Buckkeep in the Six Duchies, young Fitz, the bastard son of Prince Chivalry, is raised as a stablehand by old warrior Burrich. But when Chivalry dies without legitimate issue - murdered, it's rumored - Fitz, at the orders of King Shrewd, is brought into the palace and trained in the knightly and courtly arts. Meanwhile, secretly at night, he receives instruction from another bastard, Chade, in the assassin's craft. Now, King Shrewd's subjects are imperiled by the visits of the Red-Ship Raiders - formidable warriors who pillage the seacoasts and turn their human victims into vicious, destructive zombies. Since rehabilitating the zombies proves impossible, it's Fitz's task to go abroad covertly and kill them as quickly and humanely as possible. Shrewd orders that Fitz be taught the Skill - mental powers of telepathy and coercion possessed by all those of the royal line; his teacher is Galen, a sadistic ally of the popinjay Prince Regal, who hates Fitz all the more for his loyalty to Shrewd's other son, the stalwart soldier Verity. Galen brutalizes Fitz and, unknown to anyone, implants a mental block that prevents Fitz from using the Skill. Later, Shrewd decrees that, to cement an alliance, Verity shall wed the Princess Kettricken, heir to a remote yet rich mountain kingdom. Verity, occupied with Skillfully keeping the Red-Ship Raiders at bay, can't go to collect his bride, so Regal and Fitz are sent. Finally, Fitz must discover the depths of Regal's perfidy, recapture his true Skill, win Kettricken's heart for Verity, and help Verity defeat the Raiders.
Sword Of Truth
In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help…and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.
In a dark age when it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the beat of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them - for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not tell him.
In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan cals upon Richard to reach beyond his sword - to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed…or that their time has run out.
This is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.
Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid. They believe what they want to believe.

It's odd that the author is related to a certain anti-sematic big shot, but I prefer the Zombie Survival Guide, World War Z is just kind of "meh" after you've read the ZSG, plust the former really gets you thinking, maybe even get you to start preparing, it made me get a fucking plan set up, I'll be one of those lucky muffuckers still left alive after hordes of flesh eating re-animated come flooding in.
Shit, I'll pop their heads even if they're just brainwashed or some shit, have me some fun while the world ends, loot, kill, destroy, then focus on survival.

My favorite books by far are "A Clockwork Orange" and "Brave New World". Serious books on what the future might bring us if we don't change our ways.

1984 would be a good addition there. The secularization written in Brave New World is frightening. And A Clockwork Orange is one of my all time favorites too. I love what Burgess does to the audience, confronting them with society's generally hypocritical stance on violence. The same people who are appalled by Alex's actions in the first half of the novel are usually the same crowd cheering when he's on the receiving end of the same kind of horrific brutality.
As for lit no one's mentioned yet: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. An amazing read, controversial themes coupled with aesthetically gorgeous writing.
I think everyone should give the classic Russian novelists a chance. Nabokov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, etc.
EDIT: Avenged, I think you'd get the most out of reading Catcher in the Rye. There's just so much there in terms of identity and a lot of questions nearly everyone poses to themselves at one point or another. Happy reading. :)

"the breakfast of champions/goodbye blue monday"
by kurt vonnegut, jr.
fucking insane and funny, like everything i've read by him so far...
basically his writing style is just him writing seemingly random shit down in small quanities, a shitload of random little observations and fucked up things he was thinking (sometimes with pictures).......then they all come together in some crazy fucked up grand scheme that makes sense.......kinda.
hard to describe, just fucking read it.
