For this novel it's kind of hard to give a 'simple' overview.
It's set in the Jazz Age. This book's main theme has to do with the American Dream. If we give you an easy overview, it would give away some of the best parts of the book.
Most definately worth a read :)

great book really captures the upper class lifestyle of the 1920s and shows that money cant buy happiness

I actually kind of liked this book, and now as i've relieze how actually poor i am i apreciate Jay a whole lot more.
i think it was shit that he died though.
and for some reason one of the parts that sticks out to me dont know why, is when the narrato forgot his name picks up the phone after gatsby dies, and one of his chicago conects says something along the lines of "shits hit the fan" and the narrator tells him Jay's dead and the guys curses and hangs up. i dont know why but that part always come to mind when i think of the story.
that and the green light

hey so there was a reference to homosexuality in the book that was hidden behind societal influence. anyone guess which part of the story? here's a hint. end of a chapter. fuck i actually think it was...chapter 4? haven't read it in years but yah good book.
speaking of all these american classics, i smoked a blunt in faulkner's garden when i was in college. use to get drunk and piss in the ally he's famous for passing out in after drinking binge's too. good times.

at some point gatsby...and what's the character.....jay? were in the city visiting gatsby's friends and at the end of the visit, also the end of a chapter, there is a reference to two men getting into the same bed. it was a homosexual referene, though hidden due to the time period

I've just finished this book again for the like tenth time. It just gets better and better and I feel so bad that Gatsby gets killed. I really like Jay :( Such a tragic hero just like fitzgerald was... "Give me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy."
I'm in Florida and there was a street sign that said Gatsby Drive :)
