i am looking to make a simple coil gun and i was wondering if anyone here has fucked around with one before. before you reply let me reiterate, i am going to make a coil gun not a rail gun. there is a difference look them up.

I hope your good with electronics cause if your going to make one of these you have to be VERY skilled with elect. and circuits.

I made one. It doesn't look very sweet, and isn't real practical, isn't very efficient, but a year or so ago i made one, and it cost me little. Buy 13 disposable..fuck it, I'll just give you the link I used to make one....sec

That will give you a basic coilgun. I don't have the patience to make it any better...I was hoping i'd be able to shoot through a can..
You essentially need a capacitor bank, transformer thing, and a barrel.
Also, don't touch wires without gloves. That shit hurts like a bitch.

i'm not looking to make a full on fancy one thats built into a gun shaped case or a frame. just like a table top system.

i was interested in a gauss gun...I love how they work. You can make a mini one out of ball bearings and magnets.

never recorded, but they did leave a couple crappy little dents in an aluminium can. nothing really spectacular

oh ok. well thats still cool. it would be cool to make it with electro magnets though.

i got bored with it. i couldn't build enough charge to fire it so i gave up. i might give it another go later on

thats why it didn't work. im not sure if they sell these in your country but you could try using a disposible camera flash board and hook the hv up to the coil

coil guns are simple as all fuck. building a GOOD coil gun is a whole new thing but if you want it relatively powerful but nothing fancy get about four disposable cameras in australia i go to a developing place and get ten for free break them open desolder three of the capacitors its the often black or green battery sized cylinder and solder them in parralell on a blank circuit board then solder two wires coming of that "positive and negative" and solder them onto the positive and negative of the fourth cameras capacitor then solder two more wires coming off that one on the + and - and run those to your coil which is made from ena***ed wire which you can get from transformers when making a coil for that amount of capacitors its best to make it about 20 layers and an inch long just coil it around a plastic bic pen or similar then load in a steel or iron screw charge the capacitors and fire it for a switch you'll need to use a relay or something
