Where do you think punk started, and where is it going (or is it gone???). O.K, remeber, anyone who thinks punk is about the "Sound" is a moron. I mean, i set this up to discuss non-conformist music, not fucking capitalist pigs like good charlette who ae apparently punk because they sound fucking "agressive". Yeah, Just agressive enough to sell!. pop punk is NON-EXISTANT! THERE IS NO SUCH THING! alrght, let the fucking posts begin, cunts!

Your a moron for thinking its not about the sound.
If it didn't sound like fucking punk it wouldn't be punk.
Idiot.

punk was killed a few years ago by good charette, fallout boy, green day's newer cds, and a bunch of other bands like that. Nowdays any rich white kid that can sing in an abnormally high tone is a "punk" legend

origin? could go all the way back to mid 50's rock, and rockabilly, but it became a true genre in the 70s.
and it kinda is about sound. Loud, Fast, and offensive. not all songs of corse. but not all punk is about the same shit, you have bands like the misfits who really sing about nothing really just abunch of horror shit, then bands like anti-flag or the krays who are pro-democracy and political change, then bands like leftover crack who do the anarchist thing.
so yea like all music, it is defined by sound.
and "non-conformist" music *rolls eyes* jesus christ, Lets non-conform with everyone else.
wheres it going? theres still some real punk bands out there thant arent doing the whole emo trend and shitty popy political shit (not to be confused with actual political punk)
but im pretty sure it got a final kick in the pants when G.G. allin died, there really hasnt been any like outstanding true punk bands since then. except for pop punk.
and yes there is "pop-punk" what would you call the vandals or the offspring?
and the post above me "high tone" aparently you've never heard of harcore, i mean real hardcore, F-Minus, Social Distortion, G.G. Allin. and not just hardcore, Clit-45, rancid, lars fredricson.

My Point is, Pop is an igorant for of music, punk is opposed to ignorance, therefore, the two are incompatible.
superflysuperwhite
September 1st, 2008, 11:23 AM
how is it an ignorant form of music?
and trust me if ignorance is what you base pop on, do you relieze how many "real" punk bands have unbalieveably ignorant songs and shit?
and i dont really know what you mean by "pop" but pop-punk is usually like the more upbeat bratty goofy shit like, guttermouth, the vandals, old blink 182 and sum 41. also its whatever has a really big fan base, like is popular even in the mainstream. which doesnt nesisarilly mean sellout.

I just dont like pop. Even if it is the all-time most non-ignorant music that ever existed, it still sucks.

Its an ignorant orm of music because it disstracts people from real issues, and instead wraps them up in superficial issues like their hair.

It's true. Where are pop's values? Money? Fancy cars? All they do is sing about relationships. A few songs like that are okay, but every song is about some half-assed emotion or relationship. At least punk is fundamentally populous, and anti-corporate. Name the underlying themes in other music genres, and they just don't seem as relevant to me. As for the origin of punk, that question is nearly impossible to answer, because you can just keep going back.

I think punk has become pigenholed into being a fast, aggressive style of music.... As far as im concerned, Dark Side Of The Moon is as punk as Give Me Convenince Or Give Me Death..........

that is the fucking shittiest point ever
punk was created because of overly long experimental music, and the actual punk movement hated such shit.....hence the fast, short to the point songs.... it was the answer to what current pop music of the time was (bands like pink floyd)
fuck johnny rotten was wearing a pink floyd sucks t shirt when the sex pistols were just getting started
and the term punk was old prison slang for someone who gets ass raped... you seem to be trying to say anything rebellious, different or intelligent is punk..........it's not
and the fucking punk rock scene when it existed as a scene was some of the most close minded shit ever..........the whole 3 chord rebellion shit, if your song was over a minute it was too long, the fans spit on the bands, everyone dressed the same......stupid bondage pants and leather...safety pins

Punk is based on intelligent rebellion. what, like the Dead Kennedys where a bunch of morons?
I think of it like this: Not everything intelligent and rebellious is punk, but everything punk is intelligent and rebellious. The whole "lets spit on the band" thing came about when the music rags started writing about the bands.....Then the moron brigade came along.............

I really don't think that Henry Rollins or Ian MacKaye would appreciate you calling them close minded and unintelligent. Rejecting other opinions is not necessarily close minded. If you come to a conclusion based on your standards of morality, that's perfectly justified.

you're an idiot you really are
so you're saying things like. "im infected with aids, i fuck everyday, i kill everything i fuck" "i used to have freinds but a $20 rock is giving me a bone, im on crack" "hey ho lets go" "when i say dance you best dance mother fuck" thats all intelligant? maybe rebelious but inteligant not so much.
and not all punk is rebelious, just because they talk about change or problems in the government doesnt mean they're rebels.
you have one of those views that punk has to follow specific guidlines, and all bands need to have some deap meaning.
thats not what punk is.
and henry rollins is a tool, kieth morris is so much better

and the dead kennedys are a bunch of morons, the only member of that band i respect is jello (who is no longer a member of that band)........shit listen to the song "chickenshit conformist" by the dead kennedys, it's all right there motherfuckers.

shit you could make a punk song about pissing yourself... people have!
and think of it like this ramalamafafafa. you said punks is pretty much about being non-conformist and not being about lables and rebeling and shit like that.... but look at what youve just done in this thread, you've basically labled what punk is and said a band isnt punk unless they sing about this or rebel against that. you baisically raped what your trying to..... defend?
i see it like this, if it sounds like punk its punk, simple, but like all genres of music there are sub genres and thats how you seperate bands like simple plan from abrasive wheels.

The origins of punk came from drug addicts with limited talent telling the world to fuck off through the venue of a dirty shitty hole in the wall country music bar. Rolling around in glass, hitting fans with mic stands and all around fucking shit up for no reasons other than to say fuck you to the world.

Everyone is missing major bands like mc5, the new york dolls, velvet underground, patti smith. Punk isn't a sound its a scene, American punk was definately around before the sex pistols. Funny thing is the pistols were actually the monkeys of the punk world, malcom mcclaren manufactured them because punk was such a hit, they didn't create punk they exploited it. The ramones came late onto the scene too punk had been around for a long time when the ramones came out. Anyone who actually wants to know read Please Kill Me: The uncensored oral history of punk. by legs mcniel and gillian mcCain its an interesting read. Especially when they get into The doors stealing music from punk bands and shit.
