i am currently constructing a ghillie suit. i have my netting sewn and glued onto my pants, and am about to do the jacket, then i have to dye the burlap strands.

i was wondering, have any of you made a ghillie suit? if so what lengths of burlap work the best? i'm thinking 6-12 inches

also, for a stalker ghillie (front and back have the burlap on them) is it best to have one solid color, or a plethora of slightly different colors, so to be more natural looking? i'm thinking light green, a forest green, a grass green, a tiny bit of yellow, and a bit of natural burlap. any colors that i should or shouldnt do? where i would be using it is a forest with mildly dense covering of little plants on the ground, with lots of buckthorn and oak and spruce trees. theres also a patch of tall grass, which is where i think my ghillie will be primarily used.

and finally, do you prefer cha***eon ghillies or normal ghillies better?

if anyone has made a ghillie suit, and knows answers to any of these questions or has any advice, it would be much appreciated.

i know it isnt a weapon, but i have the ok from numerator to post about it. i'll get picks up when i have it done, and if you have any pics, you should post those motherfuckers up.

brown. brown always works good spaced through the green, looks more natural

make sure you incorporate a way to add natural vegatation and stuff to it (slits, nets etc).... especially for the grass. Idk what a cha***eon guillie suit is or what constitutes as a normal one.

what are you using as the base of this?

should post some pics, i'm intrested in this. sounds like something worth trying.

thanks numerator, i'll definitely add some brown. i hadnt though of that haha, idk why

my base is (are?) a military surplus double layered olive drab pants, with netting glued on the legs in front and back, and in the front it is also sewn to reinforce the knees and top of the net, and on the back its just glued (with "shoe goo") for my top i have a military surplus jacket from panama or something, and i'm gonna add netting to that. for my head i have a boonie

i died half of the burlap i had today and it turned out too dark, but in the end i can make it work. i just bought "tropic green" dye at walmart, and i'm pretty sure i have some brown dye. with the netting you can add natural foliage and branches and stuff too.

here is a pic of my pants, i dont worry the white string i used for sewing wont be visible

edit- also i cut the netting around one of the pockets and glued the netting on top and bottom.

also, i just got some netting that is better than the stuff i used there, so my jacket will be more quality than my pants

a cha***eon ghillie suit consists of a shitload of things that look like leaves

what i called a normal ghillie suit consists of burlap strands, jute, and burlap strips

the best gilly suits are suited for your suroundings, you should add some loacal brush/branches right before you use it

Yeah. This Snorkem fellow is right. Take random bits of low height flora for best effect, from wherever you plan to be using it. I wish I found this thread a long time ago though. I have a lot of ghillie ideas.

I would say a mixture, why not try finding a picture of camo and setting it on that?
Google is your friend.
Currently In the process of making my ghillie suit at the moment, im using darker colours mainly.
Hope it helped!

I have a ghillie suit. it's not made of burlap though, i made it from dyed jute threads. It looks awesome, it's green, brown and light brown, and there's some tan in there. blends it real well in the woods and you are invisible in tall grass. i like jute ghillie suits better than burlap, just add veg from the area your going to be using it in right before your going to us it.
