Hey i want to make a bone knife, just for fun, does anyone know the easiest way to carve it, i was thinking maybe burning it to make it more brittle
does anyone have any ideas, and should i use like a dog bone or where could i get one

making it brittle is not a good idea, there is a strong possibility of shattering it while carving or when you put it too a practical use

use a drem***. drem***s can accomplish almost everything. if you're badass you'd go shoot a deer or something and use a bone from that. but it seems kind of troublesome just to get a bone haha

and i don't see the reason to make a knife out of bone, even though you said you wanted to for fun, and even though now i want to make one. :p ha
but i think you could maybe find a bone in the woods if there's woods near you, sometimes i've seen skeletons there.
or possibly you could go to a butcher shop and ask? idk, i wouldn't personally
and though shooting a deer is something i would do, how would you get a bone that way? Unless you're suggesting cutting/digging one out? that's just messy and vaguely morbid.
Now what's way more badass is a knife made out of stone.
That'd be a project there.

Yea, a drem*** would be perfect to carve the knife from bone. Where to get the bone? I would personally go for one of those giant frog's bones. (Ebay maybe?)
They have to be able to withstand incredible force when they jump the way they do so they shouldn't break too easily.
Another option is to break your own fucking arm off and use that. (don't reccommend that)
Or you could just find someone who hunts, and when they skin their next game animal ask them if you could have a bone.

If you wanna do it the old school way use a round rock and just bash the edges into sharp edges. Its a bit more complicated then it sounds but I explain the basic concept.

i bet ya watched that CSI episode where tha black dude stabbed tha whitey with a bone after he got anally raped.
use sandpaper but ya need something to use for a handle. use tha first aid bandage(the brownish stuff or tha blue stuff) and superglue.

Go to your local butcher (grocery's store) and ask for a cow or pig femur whole and cleaned. They might even give it to you for free if you make up some sappy story about how your dick was cut off in Nam, and you need a femur to help you remind you of it....lol

www.ilwifurco.com has two kits you can buy. One is a stone knife, the other is a bronze knife. (Just remeber to ***t the hide glue OUTSIDE!!! I didn't.... The wife was NOT happy...lol...) Flint knapping stone or obsidian is hard to master. But as for the bone, talk to someone who hunts. I made a knife using the leg bone of a deer and a file for the blade. I'm in the process of making another one with a longer blade.

You have to realize that there IS bone marrow in a bone...which is soft. So it would be really hard to make this.

thief is right, you gotta dry the bone for weeks before its any good, and by then it could be to brittle, i suggest asking a professional, maybe at your local Indian reservation.

If your making the whole knife out of bone your going to need some help, probably native american/ Mexican tribes/ australian tribes. The easier option would be to cut a slit out of the top of the bone, then knap a flint blade. When i say easier, i mean easier of the two. Flint knapping can be done with a nail driven though a 1" thick piece of wood (preferably something harder than pine) so the head of the nail (the non sharp part) is showing. You use this to apply pressure to the flint and it'll flake away with varying success and angles. WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND LONG SLEEVES!

I personally think that a human thigh bone makes a nice club, and you could just tape a knife to the top of it. That would be awesome. (Bone knife is to time consuming and impractical.

I never thought about making a bone knife that'd be pretty cool  infact a few days ago i found a deer or antelope skeleton ...might have to go and snatch its femur :D
If you had a grinder of sorts either a drill outfitted with a grinding head (might need something to hold it down with) or a just a mounted grinder. It might be time consuming, but a rough rock like a chunk concrete or asphalt might work (pretty sure thats been mentioned i always seemed re-say whats already been said :p ) but it'd seem like thats what indians would do, by grinding the bone on a rock.
You-tube a video on knife or sword-making and try to mimic what they do. Monkey see monkey do :D

phoenix, please don't ban me for necro posting, this has a purpose in revival.
Alright, so i actually did some knapping, weeell, it wasn't really knapping the rock. I took a sledgehammer to it and collected the shards. As it turns out, freshly knapped and unused the rocks i used are about 10 times sharper than razor blades.
To the point, I took the shards and fixed them in place on a wood shaft, with the edges all facing in one direction. This badass knife is so sharp i couldn't even feel cut until i put my hand on it to stop the bleeding.
