What would your reaction be if someone who's only used linux their whole life asked you how to run an EXE, and what Windows is >.>

I'd tell them they're asking the wrong person. I tend to disavow knowledge of how Windows operates...

I dont even really use Wine unless I absolutely _have_ to... which is not often.

Odd, I found wine to be very useful. I was playing WOW with wine which blew my mind, though I have found other programs that don't run on it.

And if a "linux" user asked that I would think he was a noob. I know it's suppose to give the impression that he is such a uber-nix god that he doesn't even know about windows but in reality it would be some dumb fuck trying to look cool.

I would say that Windows is to a computer what T-Virus is to a person!

id say that being a linux user, never seen windows and whats an exe makes you very lucky. Windows is a piece of crap. Too easy to hack into, too easy to distroy, too easy to manipulate, too easy to lag, too easy to get viruses, etc.

Well, some great features are that you can run your linux distro off your ram. Boot to cd, usb, install to ram, pop the cd, usb out which normally makes the os run blazingly fast. Also a near idiot can customize, modify and build his very own linux distro. Can't build your own windows. Also all those viruses and malware mainly only targets windows os's. Not linux, unix or mac. Everyone uses windows anyways lol. And linux is nearly to easiest way to crack wep encryption. Wifi. You should check it out.

Linux is nice for several reasons. I enjoy much of the prepackaged software that normally comes with it out-of-the-box. There are a lot of software development tools that come with it too, for several different languages which is sweet IMO. Linux is also easier to maintain I think just because it is more terminal oriented that Windows typically is and that can give the user more raw control over the machine than having to rely on applications to guide you through the process of getting a task accomplished. A final note is that Linux is a much more compact OS than windows in size so it takes a lot less time to install. Those are just a couple reasons why I think it's great.

Have a good day! :D

I really loved linux, that is, until I tried to install a program, what a fucking pain, then again, I must have been doing something wrong.

what's the problem with installing a program?

I had to do some command line coding or something that I wasn't familiar with then.
I could probably do it now, because I have learned how to do some of that stuff from my John the Ripper knowledge, it's just, at that point in time, double clicking an .exe or .msi was much easier.

most these linux distros will allow you to run windows applications and install them to your hard drive. I can't get everything to work with wine, but i like the compatibility none the less

Indeed it's too easy for windows to get virus's, My step-dad still doesn't believe me that linux is safer, that's probablly because he's a fucking imbecile. I tried explaining to him that since Windows is the main OS lot's of people use it, therefore almost all virus's are for window's. Theres like 6million virus's for window's arent there? then about 40 for mac and 5 for the unix ver. and 40 for linux.
